We might be biased, but Halloween is one of the best times of the year for fun cocktails. The weather is perfect for enjoying whisky, and the holiday allows for treats or tricks (or both). This spooky season, let your creativity flow with these ghoulish cocktail recipes highlighting the smooth taste of Texas Crown Whisky.
Whisky Butterbeer
Recipe adapted from the Gastronom Blog
This smooth and creamy recipe features a silky brown butter syrup and apple cider. You can even serve it with dry ice for a mysterious effect that’ll transport you straight from your kitchen to the wizarding world. Serve it at a Fall party and you’ll have your friends convinced that you’re a regular patron of Hogsmeade Village.
Ingredients
Buttered Brown Sugar Syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon butter extract
- 1.50 ounces Texas Crown Whisky
- 1 ounce buttered brown sugar simple syrup
- 4 ounces apple cider
- 2 ounces ginger beer
- Ice or dry ice (if dry ice a very very small chunk, the size of a pea)
- Combine all ingredients and stir in glass. Serve with dry ice for effect (optional).
- Combine water and brown sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil. When cool, add the butter extract.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
A note about dry ice: Do not let the ice cubes touch your mouth or skin, and do not drink. Wait until they’re melted (stops bubbling) to enjoy your cocktail.
Witches Blood Punch
Recipe adapted from SprinklesandSprouts.com
If you’re looking for a whisky cocktail for a crowd, this Witches Blood punch is up for the job. This recipe is a twist on the classic whisky sour, but adds elements of sweetness from cherry schnapps and soda. Serve in a pitcher or punch bowl with plastic spiders for an added spooky effect, or elevate the drink with a sugar-rimmed martini glass. The possibilities are so endless, it’s frightening!
Ingredients
- ½ cup cherry schnapps
- ½ cup vodka (we recommend black vodka to make the color more dramatic. You can also add black food coloring – one drop.)
- 1 cup Texas Crown Whisky
- ⅓ cup fresh lemon juice
- 4 cups cherry soda
- Pour the cherry schnapps, vodka, whisky and lemon juice into a pitcher.
- Stir well with a cup of ice.
- Gently pour in the cherry soda and stir carefully to combine.
- Either pour into a punch bowl for guests to help themselves or serve in sugar rimmed glasses with a spooky spider garnish.
Haunted Graveyard
Recipe adapted from SprinklesandSprouts.com
This simple whisky-based cocktail is an easy way to elevate your celebration. Perfect for those chilly nights, this cocktail will warm you up and delight your senses with a haunted smoking rosemary. This drink has a flair for the dramatic, making it a must in our spooky cocktail lineup.
Ingredients
- ½ cup Texas Crown Whisky
- ⅓ cup maple syrup
- 4 orange slices
- 4-6 splashes bitters
- To enhance the flavor of this cocktail, use orange, grapefruit, rosemary or smoke bitters.
- 1 sprig rosemary
- 1 cup ice
- Pour the whisky and maple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Add the ice, orange slices, bitters and sprig of rosemary.
- Shake well for at least 30 seconds.
- Add the ice to a short whisky glass and strain over the prepared cocktail.
- Garnish with a fresh stem of rosemary and use a kitchen blow torch or long match to set it on fire. The fresher the rosemary, the more likely it is to smoke rather than burn. If smoking herbs isn’t your thing, garnish with an orange slicer or zest.
