Texas Crown Club Whisky Chicken Wings Recipe
What’s special about this recipe, besides the delicious whisky glaze, is the 7th step. Rather than just baking and frying your chicken, we suggest you marinate your chicken first. This will help your chicken remain juicy through baking and frying. It will also make sure that the glaze flavoring is totally dispersed through the chicken and not just sitting on the surface.
Ingredients:
- 3 lbs. chicken wings and/or legs
- ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons BBQ dry rub
- Salt
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil + oil for frying
- 6 cloves chopped garlic
- ½ cup Texas Crown Club Whisky
- ¼ cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ¾ cup pineapple juice
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup teriyaki sauce
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1½ tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1½ tablespoons of water
- 1 cup flour
Serves: 6
TIME: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Step 1 - Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Step 2- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a small saucepan and cook the 6 cloves of garlic for about 30 seconds.
Step 3- Pour in the whisky and let it reduce for about 2 minutes.
Step 4- Add the water, butter, pineapple juice, brown sugar, teriyaki sauce, and cayenne pepper to the pan and stir until combined. Cook and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 5- Finally, add in the cornstarch and water mixture. Bring this to a boil and cook for another 10 minutes. Next, cover the pot to keep warm and set it aside.
Step 6 - Season the chicken wings using ¼ cup of the dry rub seasoning. Then sprinkle with salt.
Step 7 - To give your chicken wings extra flavor, you can marinate your raw chicken wings in the glaze. Once the glaze is room temperature, drop the wings in and put them in the fridge for at least an hour, or up to about 24 hours. This step is optional, though.
Step 8- Next, put the chicken onto a baking sheet lined with tin foil and bake for 25-30 minutes until browned.
Step 9- Heat a large pot filled only about 2” high with oil over medium heat. While you’re waiting, combine the flour and the remaining 2 tablespoons of the BBQ dry rub seasoning in a large bowl. Coat the wings in the flour/dry rub mixture, shaking off the excess, then place them on a cutting board until the oil is ready.
Step 10- Once the oil temperature reaches 350ºF, fry the chicken wings for 5-7 minutes each or until the coating is light brown in color and feels crispy.
Step 11- Toss the chicken wings in the remaining Texas Crown Club Whisky glaze and serve immediately. You may want to reheat the glaze before doing this.
Serve your spicy, sweet chicken wings alongside carrots and celery with blue cheese or ranch dressing as dipping sauce. You can also garnish them with cilantro or chives for a pop of color.
